The Things He Says...

Me: WHY are you bouncing off the walls??????
G: I'm not bouncing off the walls. I'm just jumpin around! If I could fly and had a lot of air in me, I'd stand on the side of the wall and just jump off and that would be bouncin off the wall.

While pulling weeds in the garden, we uprooted a beetle pupae (the kind that is in the crispy caramel brown colored "shell" between it's larvae stage and beetle stage). Gavin asked what it was and picked it up. I explained what it was and told him he could go throw it in the grass. He looked at me with the most bewildered and disappointed look and said "but can we eat it?" I was floored! I had just told him that it was a bug... that it had been a grub-like worm and was going to turn into a beetle and he was asking me in all seriousness if he could eat it. "No! We can't eat it, Gavin, it's a BUG!" I said, showing obvious shock at the mere thought. I'm not one who is grossed out by bugs in general and I'm certainly not afraid of them, and I do encourage Gavin to explore and find the wonder in all things, including bugs, worms, spiders, etc...    but eat it? His response was "But, why can't we eat it? It was in the garden!"  That's one way of looking at it, I guess. :) Typically we do eat what comes out of the garden! I wonder what he would have said had he seen the toad that had just hopped into the green bean row...

While saying prayers one night, when we got to the God Bless part where we say "God bless Mom and Dad, Grandma and Grandpa Jennings, Grandma and Grandpa Sellner, etc." I started saying the God Blesses...
G: You can't God Bwess nobody cause you're 5 and 5 people can't God Bwess nobody. That's my rule!

G: Know how much I wuv you? I wuv you to the moon and to Daiwy Queen and to McDonald's and to Caywee Wutz's house and to the hardware store and to Menard's and to Grandpa and Grandma's and to Kwistin's and to Jo's and back! That's a wotta wuv!

Gavin to my niece Renee who was watching him that day: Renee, you're my favorite bucking bronco. Do you know what a bucking bronco is?
Renee: Did you just call me a wild horse?
G: No!

Gavin has recently been making up songs, a lot. I'm sure he gets it from me because I do the same thing all the time. I love that he does this. The most recent recurring song though is about making pancakes. It goes something like this: Dear, dear, dear cow... I'm bakin' pancakes on a dirty stump. Dear, dear cow... I'm bakin' pancakes on a dirty, dirty stump. Dear, dear pig... I'm bakin pancakes on a stump for you... dear, dear, pig... I'm bakin sausages on a dirty stump. Dear snuggle puppy, I'm bakin broccoli on a dirty stump... I'm bakin pancakes and broccoli on a dirty, dirty stump.

The kid seriously cracks me up. Some of the things he says are not so cute! He has a fascination right now with talking about poking your eyes out, punching you in the eye, sticking his butt out, and the smell of his butt. Let me tell you how much I love hearing him tell me all about those things...

When I was leaving his room last night he listed a bunch of places he loved me to. I can't remember all of them but it started with the moon and ended with Carrie Rutz's.
