A Picnic in the Yard

I've been just achin' for a good old-fashioned picnic! The kind where you sit on a blanket in the grass and eat triangle-cut egg salad sandwiches and watermelon. The kind where the ants march in lines across your blanket to your picnic basket and carry all of your food away on their backs, army style.

We talked about having a picnic a few weeks ago (May 31). It was really windy so we decided just to eat at home, in the kitchen. But, before we sat down to eat, Cliff caved and made me a picnic. He brought out the blanket, a sun shade for Gavin, and all of our food. I'm sorry to say we didn't actually use any of our umpteen picnic baskets, but this was as close to a picnic as it gets these days!

This is the day that Gavin sat up unsupported for the first time. He had to use an arm to help support his heavy upper body, but no one was holding him up, no one sitting behind him in case he toppled over. He did great!

It was a really windy day and the strong wind blew his little shade tent almost flat, but he didn't mind. He enjoyed his first picnic, and so did we! He also enjoyed trying watermelon for the first time! Oh, and p.s. There were no ants.
