What we've been up to!

You may have noticed I haven’t been blogging as much lately as I did this winter. There is good reason. Very good reason. Here’s the cold hard truth… spring has sprung.

This…

…has turned to this:

The fact is that after five months of everything covered in snow and temperatures hovering around zero, there is nothing that can keep Minnesotans (or Wisconsinites) indoors once our world thaws! We had snow early in the fall this year, but what’s more incredible is that the month of March was 100% snow-free. That’s right! March is typically the snowiest month of the year. Apparently it has been 172 years since the last time it DIDN’T snow in March. And it has only happened three times in all of recorded history. Tomorrow is March 31st and it is most definitely not going to snow. In fact, it is going to be in the high 70s! Yes, High 70’s in Minnesota in March. It’s almost unheard of. The record high in MN in March is 83, and I don’t think we’ll hit that temperature, but my, oh my will high 70s feel good. We just might don our skivvies and high-tail it to the beach!

So yes, I’ve pushed the blog to the back burner as I race home from work each day to play outside. We pull the car into the garage and head right outside, not even bothering to close the garage door! When we get our little guy out of the car, his feet barely touch the garage floor before he’s off and running out into the yard. We can hardly get him to come in to eat supper and sometimes even end up carrying him in kicking and screaming just in time to quickly have a PB&J sandwich before jammies and bed. He really is an outside kid. There was that brief time last winter where he didn’t really enjoy being outside. It was cold and windy and we practically had to dress him like an Eskimo to take him out. That only lasted a few weeks though and he was back to his old self again, wanting to be outside all. the. time. The one thing he doesn’t like is the wind in his face and spring time is definitely windy. Luckily, we have a long shed on the west side of our front yard that blocks a lot of the wind so there is a comfortable place to play. It doesn’t matter to him whether or not the sun is out, whether it’s morning, afternoon, night, or day. He wants to be out.

Just last week our friends stopped over one evening with their three boys and the boys had so much fun running around the yard. One of them even came dressed as Mario from Nintendo’s Mario Bros. games! We had headstands, costumes, and good friends all in one evening. By the end of the evening, we even had the four boys all trying to share the three sets of animal ears we have. We have kitty ears, bunny ears, and tiger ears, but I guess we need another pair of ears so everyone can wear a set! Here are some pictures from that evening!
I have lots to share with you so here is a little preview of what might be coming up on the blog in the next week or so…

- Back Yard Sugarin’ – we tapped the maple trees so I’ll tell you all about how the syrup making went!

- Big Boy Bedroom Redo – when we took the mobile down from the crib and put away the changing table, his room started to look unorganized and uncoordinated. See before & after pics of just a few things we did to make his big boy room work!

- Go Bump – we’ve only had one bleeding injury until now and that was just a bumped lip. The latest “bop”, as Gavin says, was a table corner to the eye and it wasn’t pretty, but he was a real trooper.

I know – exciting stuff… stay tuned.
