Christmas Preparations

It's snowing... again. It is a beautiful snow, but I don't want to have to drive in it again. I love the snow, I do. I don't even mind driving on snowy roads, but driving in rush-hour traffic on snowy roads drives me crazy. Seriously. I drove in to work four days last week and I added up the time I spent in the car, driving to and from work. In four days, I spend 16 hours on the road. I should be thankful for the quiet time for reflection, and I would be if I had nothing better to do in those 16 hours... but that's 16 hours that I could have spent reading to Gavin, working on a project with Cliff, Christmas shopping, wrapping, playing tractors, cooking... all of those things that I love to do.

So, today as it snows, I wonder how long it will take me to get home from work today? Do you think I can make it in less than two hours? That would be exciting!

We've been having fun preparing for Christmas. I know I promised pictures of our preparations - getting the tree, decorating, etc. and they'll come eventually, but I just haven't found time to upload them yet! Our tree is perfect... for us... this year. It's a bit of a charlie brown tree, but I love it. In the midst of a cold and blowing blizzard, traipsing through 17" of snow with a two year old covered in a blanket in the sled to keep the blowing snow out of his face, the first tree that was straight and less than $75 was going to be the perfect tree. I like it too - it's reflective of this year. Our year has lacked perfection in some ways, has been a little bare in some areas, but when you turn down the lights and look at it through twinkly eyes, it was perfect. Yes, my vegetable garden was a failure this year... but that meant that I didn't have to be out there weeding and tending to it all the time. I just let the weeds grow! No, we didn't get to go out as much with our friends as we are used to, but we instead had friends over to our house more often. We made dinner together with friends instead of eating out. We let the kids play in the living room instead of trying to keep them seated, quiet, and happy in a restaurant. We had a good year. Our tree is a good tree. When I look at it, I think of our trip in the blizzard to go get it, followed by a late breakfast at perkins. My niece Dana came with us and so did my brother Chuck and his two kids, Robyn and Luke! It was cold and windy, but looking back, it was a day of memory-making.

We've been busy making gifts, wrapping gifts, baking cookies, sending our love in the form of Christmas cards, knocking on doors, and wishing those we love a Merry Christmas!

I'll share the photos with you one of these days!

That all sounds nice. :) I hope your commute wasn't too horrible. You're always welcome to hang out at my place until rush hour is over if you ever desire to get off the road.
